Growing up, my Grandad referred to me as Tilly Mint. I did not ever question it or ask who she was - I was just Tilly Mint – she was me.
I have been thinking about him and other family members we have lost over the years. Christmas tends to be a time for that. The season allows emotive thoughts to swarm, and we look back, often nostalgically, to Christmases’ past.
Describing these to my niece, we laughed about the tree at my Grandparents house which was drenched in chocolate decorations along with the more traditional bells, baubles, and the lucky robin redbreast whose wired feet gripped the branch of the tree. We were only allowed the chocolate on Christmas day but the excitement of knowing it was there, in plain sight, often eclipsed the more sophisticated gifts. I inherited those same decorations. They are not the finest, and as the years have passed, they are held together with tape and string, but they are full of memories and laughter and are added to my tree every year.
We had no phones, and our electronic devices consisted of an Atari and an ‘Electron’ computer where we sat for hours and played football manager. You had no choice but to sit for hours as the noise of someone winding up the machine ground through the bedroom it was in, whilst we waited and waited for scores to appear with no sight of anyone at all playing football. We loved it.
Traditions were formed and forged over the years and continue today whilst new ones also align but the message is always the same. Christmas is not about the materials, or the posh chocolates, it is about the people and the laughter and often the tears as we reminisce.
So how do I turn this into a blog about After the Event Insurance. Quite simply put, when you remove all the glitter, the glossy brochures, and the fabulous websites, you are left with the people. Our unique insurance model was designed by Solicitors with Solicitors in mind, but it is our people that make the service what it is. The team at the end of the phone when you call to discuss a case, or a claim are knowledgeable and friendly. We like chatting to our clients and we always want to offer the best possible service. A good USP is like a tradition. You want to keep reliving it as it continues to provide the same good memories and security it always did. Give us a call if we can be of any help at all, and if you can provide answers to the real question – Who is Tilly Mint? I’d be ever so grateful.
