Have you ever seen a woodpecker? I did for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The noise vibrated around the trees and other birds seemed to jump as it attacked a branch with its beak. My puppy wasn’t impressed, and he sat whist I watched for ten minutes – he sat only because he could smell the treats in my hand… but patience is a virtue and all that…
What’s the point of this post? I’m trying to become more present when I’m out walking. I trained for London marathon last year and the majority of headspace during my training session was occupied by a playlist that grew right up until the day of the big race. I ran for Samaritans having tragically lost my brother 2 years ago this February and my aim was to get through the run whilst staying sane. It worked (although some may disagree) but I now need a new focus and I have ditched the headphones and spend my walks thinking and watching. Being present helps in so many ways, it allows me to put things into perspective, to be grateful for the ability to do the walk, to see and hear nature as I plod along and of course to be patient as my new companion explores his surroundings with his nose.
It's something we often lack in the working day. We spend the time desperately trying to get through to the end. Monday becomes Tuesday and we are grateful – we’ve made it passed Monday unscathed. Thursday becomes Friday and it’s the end of the week for many of us. Much of it has passed in a blur and work conversations and plans are dismissed as we look forward to a Saturday of family, friends and hopefully enjoyment, although I appreciate that’s not the life many know.
Our After the Event insurance products and scheme at Box Legal push us to focus on our clients. We don’t have the liberty of half listening as we need to provide a specific solution to our clients needs. We ask for such a limited amount of information when a policy is put in place that we must talk, listen and understand how our client’s firm functions. It matters, as it’s their business and it’s also ours. Founded in 2004, we continue to gather all intel that is necessary for our insurance scheme to work, and our clients benefit from that. We need the finer detail in discussion as it gives them the freedom to run their cases with the vital cover that is always necessary. At Box Legal we are present, and we listen and whilst not meaning to sound like Take That, we always have a little patience when trying to help.
